A new academic year will soon be here! Are you ready to start it off on the right foot? As the new school year inches closer, I’m sure you could use some convenient, straight-forward advice to start the Fall semester with a bang.
Here are 4 helpful actions to take to set yourself up for a successful new term:
#1. Write down 3 goals before bed.
Keep a notepad by your bedside. Before going to bed each night, jot down three small goals you want to achieve the next day. Writing your goals actually moves them from being ideas to a realized plan. Doing this each night also increases your chances of accomplishing the tasks for which you set out to complete. It also keeps you focused and helps you ensure that your days are maximized and productive, rather than wasted.
#2. Consistently show up for your classes.
I know … I know. Some classes may bore you and feel like a waste of time, but you should always go to class. This allows you to take full advantage of your time as a student. By the way, you never know what you’ll need your professor for down the road, so make sure you show that you are responsible in attending class sessions to be favorable in your instructor’s eyes.
#3. Attend leadership trainings.
You are getting closer to graduation. You know what that means? It means you will soon exit college to join society as a responsible adult, citizen and leader. Attend as many on and off-campus leadership training opportunities as you can. Seek them diligently. One of the best things you could do for yourself is to develop leadership knowledge and skills that you can pair with your academic training. Developing your leadership capacities also makes you more well-rounded and marketable in the eyes of employers and grad schools interviewers.
#4. Pursue internships or relevant work experiences.
Even if your major doesn’t require you to pursue internships, you should always complete at least one internship or work experience related to your major before graduating. Relevant work experiences or internships look good on résumés and help you discover if you are truly interested in that line of work.
Overall, remember these 4 recommendations and actually put them to practice. By doing so, you set yourself up for nothing short of success.
